The people who live in these little towns in the hills of Appalachia only look poor but are rich in ways that most people will never understand, the best things in life are not things and these people truly have it all.

I've lived here in Beattyville for over 40 years and wouldn't live anywhere else. Yes we are poor,but we have more love and compassion in this little community than the rest of the entire world. Everyone here knows everyone else. We meet and greet everyone with a smile and hug.

I have been to Beattyville. It was a horrible experience. People were friendly, opened doors for me, gas station attendant called me sweety and a little old cute lady gave me a granny hug. Wasn't anything I went there for I tell you! Will come back in the future when I get over the shock of being treated kindly. 😂

I'm German and live in Germany. But I've had the opportunity to visit and travel to the USA many times. I've seen many dirty and dangerous places. This place may be poor, but honestly, everything is well-maintained and clean. People do what they can, and that's all that matters.

My Nana always said, you can be as poor as a Church mouse, but there isn't any reason ot to keep your home,yard and self clean and tidy ❤im 72 and still agree!!

I’m from Beattyville good people good memories. I moved away due to lack of jobs but that’s only one of the reasons I moved away. It’s beautiful and people are kind to each other. 😊😊

It doesn't look like the poorest town in the country at all. It looks clean, orderly, and civilized at least in my opinion.
