Whenever I blocked my elbow my violin teacher would say "And remember: this is not a rowing club. Please use all of your arm." xD

I'm glad you said talk to your teacher. Videos are a usefull guide. Having a teacher is the fastest way to learn especially in the first year when you are consintraiting on fundementals

Thanks for your explanation, it's exactly my problem (self-taught), it happens especially when I have to make a string change, for example in the song "cumparsita", where in the notes we have staccato on the G string and I have to quickly switch to playing a note on the E string. Even though I repeat each attempt slowly while looking at my arm in the mirror, I can't find an effective method to correct the problem.
