  One time I accidentally clicked into a chinese live stream, and while trying to figure out how to exist the live streamer called out my username. I panicked and closed the app.

  one time i stumbled into one of these live stream and saw a girl doing the same dance over and over again for 20 minutes. i stayed and watched to see when will she get a rest but eventually got bored. 2 hours later i came back and still saw her doing that same dance. this industry is so weird

  I got sucked into it in 2023 which was about the time these Chinese groups started gaining momentum in TikTok. I actually became friends with a few of the girls from this one particular group, we still follow each other on our private instagrams to this day. One of them filled me in on all the details and they got a comfortable salary and their accomodation was all paid for. They would get bonuses depending on how many gifts they received but the threshold was quite high. The companies were a bit predatory as they would guilt trip the girls if they tried to leave and then they were not allowed to continue their online careers for 1 year minimum after meaning their company due to the contracts. I can’t imagine it’s a bad gig there but I personally will never get involved in those groups again, I definitely was parasocial at one point and wasting too much time in those live streams because I was a regular and known viewer that they would always greet, then they eventually added me to become a moderator for the channel which only fuelled my compulsion to be in every live. It was a really weird era of my life lol.
