The Queen got on her knees begging for mercy — and the Earl looked at her and said no. Was he right?

Richard Fitzalan who married Elizabeth Bohun, was my 19th great grandfather. All of these people are woven into my very very distant English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish ancestors. I never knew we had any connection to the old world until I sent my DNA sample in. Fascinating learning about all of them. I know I have no connection to them, but I like how they come alive for one more minute when their stories are told again.

Arundel is my favorite castle. Our hostel there was in the old Hunting Lodge, and it was marvelous. Many wonderful years ago...from Sarah in North Carolina, United States.

My fathers ancestors are believed to have gone to Scotland with Walter FitzAlan to serve King David I. I've known nothing of his brother Williams family 'til now. Wow. Just over a year ago I discovered information on my mothers side, confirmed by DNA to an English Earl my 5x g grandfather, who was a 2x great grandson (on his mothers side) of King Charles II . As King Charles II (14) children where all illegitimate, could not inherit the throne but were given titles.
So I've really enjoyed learning the other side of the FitzAlan family.
Without a doubt Queen Elizabeth I, would have been wary of Henry FitzAlan due to his family ties with Mary Queens of Scots.
