I’m 97% phlegmatic and love cholerics because I take too long making the decisions…. I actually love that they take the lead in making decisions

I can’t tell if I appreciate Father Justin’s bluntness or not 😂 The truth hurts!

I pretty much match your description. What is the biggest challenge? Having an anger that really grows out of proportion to the situation (someone is late, someone makes a mistake, things don't go according to plan, etc.). Advice like "be patient" doesn't help. Being told it's just a trial to help me grow in virtue just makes me mad at God, too, for giving me such a rotten trial. I know God sees us with mercy and love, despite our miseries and stupidities. I'd like to see that way some day, too.

Un acto de paciencia todos los días es por ejemplo , para mi, rezar un rosario.

Thank you for your podcast. It's refreshing to hear this topic discussed from a Catholic perspective.

I'm a major choleric with a secondary sanguine temperament. I grew up in a family full of cholerics, in a country filled with cholerics. Where I come from, speaking directly is considered a sign of respect, and adding extra words to "soften the blow" is often seen as muddying the situation. I also realized that I have spent most of my life working as a manager, and more specifically as a Continuous Improvement Manager. Isn't that funny?

Nevertheless, God has given me many opportunities to work on my virtues by moving me to a country where indirect communication is the norm and placing me among people who have not been exposed to as many experiences as I have. He was essentially asking me to slow down and walk alongside them. I was also blessed with several young children to care for, and that certainly develops one's patience.

You make an excellent point regarding temperaments in church circles. Many phlegmatics and melancholics are often perceived as holy simply because of their personality. I have witnessed passivity and even sloth being camouflaged as virtues when, in reality, they were damaging to our ministries. Cholerics, on the other hand, are often viewed as troublemakers, when, as Father mentioned, temperament is simply temperament—and a choleric temperament can be a very valuable gift.

There have been moments in my life when I had to protect others from predatory behavior and confront individuals who were causing significant harm within our ministry. Other temperaments are not always as inclined to step into those difficult situations. Nevertheless, I sought God's guidance and spent much time in prayer. It became a deeply transformative experience. God was truly walking with me and directing my steps. He took my temperament and refined it for the good of others.

That is not to say I don't have a lot of work to do! If only people knew how much it cost me to shut up and not engage whenever I hear something foolish being spoken, eh... oh well.

Thank you for that episode.

There is a test you can take. The test helped me to see what temperament I am. Meloncholeric with a dash of choleric. It’s spot on
