17 MORE Container Vegetables You'll DEEPLY Regret Not Planting in September

Turn Any Small Space into a High-Yield Garden with The Complete Potted Patio Method 👇 https://thepottedpatio.gumroad.com/l/... You watched the first list. You planted the collards, the carrots, the garlic. Good. Those were the easy seventeen. But this is the list I didn’t give you — and it’s the better one. After that video went out, the comments filled up with the same sentence: “I already grow all of those." And they were right. Everybody grows those. That’s why they were first — the safe seventeen, the ones every garden centre stocks and every gardening list repeats. These seventeen are different. Most aren’t sitting in your garden centre. Several may not even be in your seed rack. And one has a name so strange people assume I made it up. Here’s the part that will annoy you: *Nine of these are perennials.* Plant them once, and many can return in the same pot year after year. Most people buy seed every spring for crops that can keep producing with far less work. This is why you rarely see a list like this. These crops don’t sell the way annual vegetable starts do. A garden centre makes money selling tomato plants every May — not from a plant you buy once and keep for years. THE 17, COUNTED DOWN 17. Mustard greens** — 40 days, and frost makes them better 16. Broccoli** — transplants only; one per 5-gallon pot 15. Cabbage** — one of the most cold-hardy crops on this list 14. Mint** — September can be better than spring 13. Oregano & thyme** — one pot can last for years 12. Rosemary** — plant the crown high or you risk losing it 11. Tatsoi** — can keep producing late into winter in suitable zones 10. Mizuna** — cut it and it can regrow quickly 9. Egyptian walking onion** — a fascinating perennial onion that can multiply itself 8. Wild rocket** — the perennial alternative to ordinary rocket 7. Sorrel** — one of the earliest edible leaves of spring 6. Welsh onion** — keep harvesting the greens instead of pulling the plant 5. Garlic chives** — hardy, productive and useful in the kitchen 4. Asparagus** — deep containers, patience, and then years of harvests 3. Rhubarb** — harvest carefully and protect the crown 2. Kohlrabi** — around 55 days; harvest when the bulb reaches a useful size 1. Sunchoke (Jerusalem artichoke)** — one tuber can produce an impressive harvest BONUS: THE THREE-IN-ONE HERB POT A simple combination of herbs that can give you a productive container for years with very little maintenance. ZONE NOTE This guide is written for **USDA Zones 3–10**. Your ideal planting window depends on your zone, so check your local frost dates before planting. Every number in this list came from **Nana Ruth**, who spent fifty years growing food on a concrete back porch in Macon, Georgia — using buckets, dishpans and even paint cans set out for the trash. No yard. Not once. Tell me your *USDA zone* in the comments — just the number — and tell me which of these crops you had never heard of. I read every one.
