Good thing the Eucharist is not a cymbal! That would be very challenging to consume!

This level of knowledge on the Eucharist should be mandatory for every catholic.

I am technically still a Protestant (not sure how long that will last as I'm signed up for OCIA, I've still got a couple of doctrines and one dogma to work through before I can become Catholic but at this point I think it's a matter of time), but even when I was still committed to Protestantism and hadn't started exploring Catholicism I thought my home church was wrong about the Eucharist, or Lord's Supper as we called it. I was raised Southern Baptist, by the time I was a late teenager I had already pretty much adopted transubstantiation (though an incomplete view of it, because I was completely unaware of Apostolic succession). I wouldn't have described it as such, partially because of the way the Catholic doctrines around the Eucharist were described to me, and partially because I hadn't yet learned that there was any other view than strict memorialist and "the Catholics", so I just quietly thought I was a heretic.

When I went to college I learned from my Reformed friends about the Lutheran view, (this was an inter-denominational Protestant College where about half the faculty were Presbyterian and another 40 percent were Baptist, less than 10 percent were made up of other Protestant denominations) and I was like "That! That's very close to what I believe, although I would go a little further than that and say that Christ isn't just present within the bread but the bread and wine become in essence the body and blood of Christ, like what you are eating isn't really bread and wine anymore" it wasn't the most precise language but I essentially had already believed in Transubstantiation.

Well one of my friends said "you sound very Catholic now" and I was like "how am I Catholic in any way?" (keep in mind I was raised Baptist and taught that Catholics were on the same level as Jehovah's Witnesses, which I didn't really buy even then because Christianity can't die and the logical conclusion of that view is that Christianity died for 1500 years, but still the word Catholic was like a slur to my soon to be educated but still as of yet unlearned ears). Well the one Catholic in the entire school (who was an Anglican before he was Catholic) learned that I believed in Transubstantiation and he came to talk to me, we became fast friends and he dispelled a lot of the falsehoods I learned about Catholics. He died just a couple of years later but left me his Catechism, it has his signature in it and remains one of my most treasured possessions

Well I come back home from college and pretty much immediately get in trouble with my church because of my friendliness towards Catholicism and especially my "Catholic Syncretism". I eventually got forced out of that church and joined an Independent Baptist Church nearby, it was not long before the SBC rejected the Nicean Creed and I was very glad I was no longer associated with the SBC

Well I took several years to actually get around to reading Christopher's Catechism, and a lot of that was spurred on by my discovery of Joe Heschmeyer and Trent Horn, which have removed a lot of the lingering disagreements I had about Catholicism and now have me seriously considering converting. I still got a couple of hills to get over, but I'll be honest my objections have been disappearing one by one for the last year or so now so if I were to guess then by the time I complete OCIA I will probably be ready to become Catholic.

I want to share my thoughts on this based on some intense spiritual experiences I’ve had since starting my walk with God in late 2023. My journey began with what I would call a "spiritual emergency." I am not Catholic—I attend a Protestant church—but over the months, I have been critical of both traditions while trying to understand the truth. When I first started my walk, the very first church I went to was Catholic. Because of the urgency of my situation, the priest advised me to confess and partake in the Eucharist. During that communion, when I closed my eyes with the bread in my mouth, I saw an image of Jesus that has been incredibly hard to shake off. It left me with endless questions. Since then, I transitioned to a Protestant church, but I still attend Catholic Mass every now and then. The experiences have been wild, scary, and have left me wanting to know more.On one particular occasion—I believe it was a Thursday evening during Eucharist Adoration—the priest walked through the pews with the Eucharist after Mass. I won't go into every detail of what I experienced, but as he finished walking and prepared to go up to the altar, I suddenly felt something stare me down. It was a piercing gaze. Had I been standing, it probably would have brought me to my knees. It immediately reminded me of the scripture, "Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that I am Lord."I couldn't fully comprehend that gaze, and I’m still trying to figure it out. I asked myself: Is this God? Is He mad at me? Or is He looking past me and staring at the sin stuck to me like the miry clay?I should note that I rarely partake in communion anymore because I feel too much reverence for it. If I commit even a tiny sin—like beeping at someone on my way to church—I am mentally done. I instantly feel unworthy to partake. However, looking back at that night, I am starting to believe that because I didn't take communion, I didn't have Jesus physically in me. I wasn't communing with Him or the rest of the congregation. In that moment, I lacked the Mediator—the lawyer before the Judge—to handle my sins in God's presence, so those sins felt unwashed. While Protestants place a lot of emphasis on a prayer of acceptance, repeating those words—though powerful—feels incomplete to me. Anyone can say they accept Jesus. To me, the ultimate form of accepting Him is through the bread and wine, where you physically accept His sacrifice, commune with Him, and receive His grace and salvation directly into your soul.

Jesus did not say I am the door, here take me and open me, or I am the vine, here take me a graft me. He did say I am the bread of heaven, here take and eat...Peace!
