I was (now retired) a first responder for 34 years. The number of men who ran from a scene after causing a collision, often after it was obvious serious harm had been done, is flabbergasting. These injuries and deaths to infants, children, men and women and still they never tried to render aid. Their only concern was self-preservation, and that often added more distress to those injured, to the witnesses, and to those of us attending the incident.<br><br>I learned very early on not to ask what punishment the guilty party eventually received, it was so often insufficient that knowing only caused further harm to everyone involved.
