One thing I’ve noted is how quickly the fandom turned on steelwool after one bad game. Most people liked help wanted, and as such, liked steelwool. Then security breach was bad and suddenly everyone acted like steelwool is this awful company that can’t do anything right. Even now when we know that the failure of security breach was more the fault of Scott not telling steelwool the story of the game he was having them make; people still constantly insult steelwool.

Even the people who did really like SOTM are still posting things like “who woulda thought steelwool can make good games!?” Like holy crap they made one bad game and that one bad game had outside factors like Scott getting paranoid and Covid contributing to the games poor quality, but people still act like steelwool are the worst.

In addition to LeeLee081’s great comment, I am kinda shocked that not many people who talk about FNAF talk about its critique of capitalism. It seems to be the largest theme but overshadowed by the family themes. Security Breach speaks on the replacement of humans for robots, and the modern storyline’s main antagonist is an evil AI. It seems pretty apt for the times we’re in now.

FNAF, Evangelion, and the Bible have remarkable storytelling connections, the “same” story told through different perspectives to give a complete view of what’s happening, even if they are inconsistent with themselves.

The FNAF story is one about family and emotional bonds... I really wish people would fully grasp that. Father-daughter bonds especially.

Cassie and her theorized dad, Vanessa and William, Elizabeth and William, Charlie and Henry (TSE), Charlie and Henry from both the games AND movies. I could go even further with fazbear frights, but I will refrain. The family aspects of these games, books, and movies have always drawn me in. Kid's becoming products of their families and surrondings, the conflict these children have between what is right and what is familiar. In my opinon, it's usally very well done! Security Breach is one of the only mainline games I can think of that doesn't have much to do about family, but instead friendship. I am not about to get into the whole "who dropped the elevator on Cassie" debate here, but Gregory and Cassies friendship is a core part of Ruin + the books. At least in my opinion! In short, emotional bonds with both humans and animatronics has always been a huge part of this franchise, and I love it. <3

Great video! As someone who played secret of the mimic on launch, I big agree with your points of its story being underrated. An aspect I really liked about it was that the story didn't try to rely on nostalgia bait, even though it was set in the past. It told its own unique story in classic ambiguous fnaf fashion, but a lot more intriguing than like security breach imo.

Speaking of, Security breach is a real unfortunate case. I do think even that game had good elements. These elements were just super disconnected because, as Scott said himself, the developers were kind of forced to connect pieces together without really knowing why they were there.

0:20 Anyone putting "bait" or "slop" in front of everything they don't like, or claims to "critique" something yet they can only use internet buzzwords, I'm not taking them seriously. Words have clear distinct definitions for a reason, not for people to just make up random shit words to make up for the vocabulary that they lack.

That tiny edit when you first show Edwin and Fiona's portrait where Fiona's portrait catches fire was absolutely genius editing creativity!
