I live in Virginia and food lion and Aldi have veggies at these prices about 2 x per month. I buy double and preserve accordingly to last.

If you want the chicken meat, for other dishes, boil them, take the meat off, put the bones back in w/a splash of vinegar and put in crockpot for 12 to 24 hours. Put the stock in the fridge and skim that fat off and save it. Use for chicken gravy to put on biscuits or in small dabs for flavoring. Freeze the stock in portions or use for soup.

When your Mother was shopping they didn't even have the baby carrots. Baby carrots begin with big carrots and are and trimmed from a machine to make them that size

Words of wisdom. We were fortunate to grow up in homes with real cooks. My mom was so resourceful, I used to say she could make delicious meals out of air. In a home with four children and a hungry husband, that was no easy task.
