  Victims should never set the sentence. They are not impartial, there would be way too much variation, often little or no interest in recidivism risks and you can guarantee there would be bias.

  is this much touted 40% across every type of crime and every repeat offender. Perhaps the 40%  relates to a whole new gambit of crime and their severity that was not as frequent as they were in 1990

  The caller was right,sentencing is more lenient if the number going to prison has declined by 24% unless that drop in prison sentences is accompanied by a similar drop in the number of crimes committed.He was also correct in his claim that a report produced by a politician,even an ex politician,is not independent.We now know from the pandemic that statistics cannot be relied upon in the same way that they used to be.A perfect example was when the NHS stopped collecting and publishing data surrounding covid within the hospital system.It stopped at the exact point where the stats began to reveal that the number in hospital with covid was 79% vaccinated,that those who went into intensive care were 81% vaccinated and those that were dying were 82% vaccinated

  They do fudge the figures, there are a lot of unrecorded crimes, then there is the COPS resolutions and Restorative Justice resolutions. The officer wasn't allowed to speak and got flustered. I'm a former police officer in the UK (12 years) and I've seen magistrates court let people off with a slap on the wrist. Court processing take so long, up to a year that victims refuse to attend court which leads to cases being dropped. There are numerous flaws in the system and stastics don't match what is actually happening in real life. A nominal can be wanted for numerous crimes which are then just bundled together and written off as solved cases. More and stations are being closed with fewer officers. In my home town on the weekend there used to be numerous officers conducting foot patrol, (this doesn't include response) now there's none and this is the same across the country. Officers have become lazy and stay at the station on tie themselves to jobs, and even hide. They don't answer the station door. Shops don't bother reporting crime as they know nobody will attend. In my area there used to be 5 police stations, now there's 1, which is closed to the public.

  Presenters, and the media should  use their freedom wisely while they can. Another term of Labour, and they will report exactly what they are told, nothing more and nothing less.

  On any level your care to mention, on any subject, OBrien has got to be the vilest person on radio. He is utterly repugnant.
