I think one of the most novel things about Lovecraft's beings is that they defy taxonomy and description and yet they're so paradoxical and interesting that we keep trying anyway.

What I think The Darkness represents is the embodiment of all nothingness the avatar of oblivion basically, which is ironically or maybe not so ironically is the same as their respective representations in comics, in fact you could call them the same beings in the sense that they are multiversal constructs. The nameless mist (nonsensical name btw) represents all matter in contrast and Yog Sothoth was born of their first interaction so he represents the gateway to both the material and immaterial worlds.

During the rectification of the Vuldronaii the Traveller came as a very large and moving Torb. Then of course in the third redoncilliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants they cose a new form for him, that of a Sloar. Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you.
