  I harvested for the first time in June and had 9 full frames (I have 3 frame spinner) for a total of 31 lbs. I did it in my garage (door shut) and made a huge mess! Just out of curiosity, I opened the garage door and waited maybe 30 minutes before I saw what I assumed was a scout bee. Another 30 minutes or so my garage floor and spinner was covered with bees. After 2 hours the floor and all the equipment was clean and no sticky anywhere! It was amazing! 🍯🐝

  Thanks to you both for your helpful work. I live in my trailer on my step daughter’s property and several years ago she bought a starter hive and as with most of the maintenance and labor on the farm, I ended up managing the adventure. I harvested the first crop of honey in the 2nd year using almost exactly the tools you used in this video and let’s just say - I learned a lot (he’s 76 now and still tends to learn the hard way. What a mess! 🙄 &nbsp; editor) Then my stepdaughter got a boyfriend who decided he wanted to take care of the entire business so I stepped back and allowed him/them to carry forth. He bought several used hive boxes with frames and starter colonies and turned down my offers to assist. Since then they have lost 5/6 colonies in two years and made management errors that I had to bite my tongue regarding. I have learned a lot from yours and other videos and had a nephew who has his beekeeping license and is working towards higher degrees come out and open the hives with me a few weeks ago. One hive is thriving and the mite count was very low which was encouraging. Another had been robbed clean after that colony swarmed and apparently had no viable replacement queen. There were moths and beetles that remained so I bagged up those frames for my nephew to take to have his mentor inspect. <br><br>My nephew says it’s fine to neglect possible assists that would help these hives and how much you are involved all depends on what your goals are in keeping hives on your property. Considering the lack of attention to proper set up and processing of dead out hives, I had to disagree. Having active hives on your property implies a degree of care that should not be ignored imo. Certainly if you expect to harvest honey and prevent potentially spreading problems for other beekeepers in the area. I expect the responsibility to rest on my doorstep soon and am thankful for your positive and knowledgeable contribution on YouTube. Much appreciated.

  A cloth headband to keep hair back works great to keep sweat out of your eyes when worn on your forehead.
