Dark clouds cover the sky. Neha is picking vegetables from the small garden in her home amidst the rain. She quickly gathers tomatoes, onions, green chilies, and some greens, placing them in her basket. Neha (28): (Hurriedly) Oh my, the rain just won't stop today. Let me quickly pick the vegetables I need, or else I'll get completely drenched. Narration: Neha rushes back inside with the vegetables. She goes to the kitchen and starts preparing piping hot tea and onion-potato fritters (*pakodas*) for everyone. The family sits together, enjoying the tea and fritters. Riya (24): (Happily) Bhabhi (Sister-in-law), nothing beats having your tea and fritters on a rainy day like this. Mohan Ji (46): (Sipping tea) And make sure the tea is nice and strong, too. Raghav (30): (Worried) It’s been raining continuously for days, and I haven't been able to go to work. I don't think the painting work can proceed properly in this weather. Work might have to stop completely for a few days. Neha (28): (Reassuringly) That’s alright. You can look for work elsewhere. If it’s not happening here, check in the city. You’re bound to find work somewhere. Raghav (30): (Smiling) Yes, I’ll give it a try. Narration: After the meal, Raghav leaves the house in search of work. By afternoon, the rain subsides a little. Just then, a dosa vendor arrives in the village lane with his cart and starts calling out loudly. Dosa Vendor (Male, 45): (Calling out) Get your dosas! Piping hot masala dosas! Crispy and delicious dosas! Narration: Gradually, several women from the neighborhood gather around the dosa vendor's cart, holding their umbrellas. Riya (24): (Happily) I’m going to get a dosa today, too. I’ve been eating home-cooked meals for so long during this rainy spell. Narration: Riya brings out her piggy bank and takes out some money. She then steps out with her umbrella, buys a dosa from the vendor, and brings it home. Riya (24): (Happily) Hey everyone, come here! Look, I’ve brought a dosa. We’ll all share it. Narration: Outside, the rain begins to pour heavily again, while the entire family sits down indoors to enjoy the piping hot dosa. Kamla Devi (44): (While eating) Wow, this is absolutely delicious. Riya (24): (Smiling) Yes, Ma, I asked him to make it a bit spicy. There’s a special joy in eating spicy dosa when it’s raining. Narration: Meanwhile, Raghav has been wandering around all day looking for work, but the rain has prevented him from finding any. Dejected, he is heading home when he runs into two of his friends. Friend 1 (Male, 30): (Happily) Hey Raghav, it’s been ages since we met! Come on, let’s go sit somewhere and catch up. Raghav (30): (Troubled) Oh man, it’s pouring rain. Where would we go? Besides, I have some work to attend to at home. Friend 2 (Male, 31): (Insistently) Come on, man, just come along. We’ll sit for a bit and then head home together. Narration: The two friends insist and take Raghav along with them. A short while later, they arrive at a spot where several people are gambling. Four people are seated at each table, all engrossed in gambling for money. Raghav (30): (Surprised) Man! This isn't for the likes of us. We’re poor folks. It’s so hard for us to earn money; where would we even get the cash to squander like this? Friend 1 (Male, 30): (Laughing) Are you crazy? We’ve been playing for years. Friend 2 (Male, 31): (Reassuringly) Yeah, brother—sometimes you get back double what you put in. If luck is on your side, it’s like hitting the lottery. Raghav (30): (Nervously) But I don't want to do this. I want to go home. Friend 1 (Male, 30): (Persuasively) Oh, don't be scared. We’ll show you how to play. Just give it a try once today. Narration: Swayed by his friends, Raghav sits down to gamble. Luck favors him right from the start, and he wins a significant amount of money. Raghav (30): (Happily) Wow, I’ve got so much
