If Buying Isn’t Owning, Then Piracy Isn’t Stealing

Honestly I would just send an invoice to TeamViewer for a refund of the licenses.

Lifetime means lifetime end of story. If they want to discontinue it, then they need to give you a free upgrade. Anything else is false advertising.

Perfect example, EA computer games purchased on physical discs around 2010. There was a period of time when you could just pop in the disc and install it on your computer like every other pc game at the time, but then EA came out with the origin launcher and suddenly you had to make an account to play the games you had already bought. Then they did away with origin and launched the EA app, which at the time of launch you could only play in offline mode by first logging in online then switching to offline mode. But their servers were trash so I couldn't log in and through no fault of my own couldn't play the games that I owned on physical media and had the necessary hardware for. That day was my first time ever pirating games and there is no part of me that feels like I did anything wrong.

I bought a lifetime license to Ultimate Guitar Tabs a decade ago for $20. They only offer subscriptions now. Guess what? My license still works! THAT’S how you do it.

This isn't complicated - Linus is 100% correct. They are forcing an upgrade on a lifetime license. Their only option is to upgrade all older users for free. That's it. That's the only thing they should even be considering. Promising X, and then delivering Y (at an increased cost!) is opening TV up for a really fun lawsuit.

I don't even understand how lifetime SaaS license is even legal. A digital product is one thing, but something that needs the servers to keep going forever is literally the one thing that you are 100% certain to not deliver

I remember back, even before Adobe went to the whole subscription service, I was working with a School District that had purchased Adobe CS3 full suite, and we had to rebuild their machines and when we got to re-installing CS3 for their computer lab, the software wouldnt activate. I called Adobe support and they told me "We turned off those activation servers, you can purchase a new license" that was their solution. So what did I do, I sailed the 7 seas and found a cracked version of the exact same software they had paid for that actually activated and felt ZERO remorse for it.

If they sold you a perpetual licence, and that was the contract you signed, they cannot alter the contract without your explicit consent. Sounds like they're breaking contract to me. Lawyer up.

HI! About Teamviewer, I can add that if you are on a certain version eg. 14 you cannotconnect to a peer running eg. ver 15 The software will not allow the connection between different version clients... That translates to Forcing you to upgrade...

The death of perpetual license for software is the death of the PC industry. They make new version every year so the new files don't work on the version from last year.

I think what was really pertinent was the statement read starting about 2:30. "We support ALL earlier versions of Team Viewer. If you choose to stay with the version you have originally purchased. You will ALWAYS find your license supported here." It's pretty difficult to misunderstand that statement. If they still breath. They should support your version.
