  What makes the whole mind invasion bit worse is it&apos;s highly likely that it wasn&apos;t meant as an attack at all we see in later close encounters with the Angels that they don&apos;t understand things like loneliness or sadness or emotional pain because they are a collective conscious e.g Rei and her Eva gets infected during a battle and the angel keeps asking questions relating to her feelings and emotions and it simply keeps asking why. With Asuka the angels had not advanced enough/been able to learn language at that time but it was doing the same. It was looking at the source of her trauma and pain and loneliness but like a child the angel couldn&apos;t understand that in doing that it was causing her great psychological harm.
