To be honest , it is pretty difficult to get in a Union Apprenticeship. Despite saying there is a shortage , it is difficult to get in but it is up to each person to show how much they really want to succeed. I do wish it was more accesible to become a trades person.

You described my situation perfectly right from the get go.
I'm 26, living in ohio, and I applied to the union this year. I got the highest score possible on the exam, and my interview felt like it went great. When I didnt get the call during the main hiring period, honestly, i got depressed. It felt like all my momentum ran into a wall. I really like having structure to my path forward and that structure was gone.
Ive been getting back on my feet lately, and I was looking for some guidance as to where I should direct my efforts, so this video was perfect. Ill be honest, I was trying to avoid contacting non-union shops. I realize now there was some bias involved in that, plus I really do appreciate the amount of structure the union provides. Hearing how Josh put it though, got me feeling ready to start calling up some non-union shops.
Thanks guys, I needed that! And I'm definitely considering making a linkedin account to shoot Josh a direct thank you as well.
I am curious, when it comes to getting a better sense of what I'm getting myself into, of what's involved in the electrical trade, what are some good questions I can ask people about that?

3:26 well there that. Your hard work could be passed down generation to generation. Also if the guy wanted to be completely honest he would have led with my dad was associated with the union that's how i became a part of it. Obviously hard work too.

Y'all spent most of this video selling the trades. We know what the trades can provide that's why we are trying to get in but that is the problem, being able to get in.The problem with getting in seems to be nepotism,if we don't know someone that's already in it's a long shot but it's suppose to be a shortage of workers.Smh somethings not adding up.
