  Yes, Honey was a scam.<br><br>Not only did it not actually provide the promised coupon savings by design, the extension would the vast majority of the time report no coupon available while still attaching an affiliate cookie to tie the transaction to Paypal, the owner of Honey.<br><br>So, the creators that would use affiliate links as part of their revenue stream would do sponsor reads for Honey. The viewers would download Honey. Honey proceeds to not provide the promised discount savings to those viewers, while also taking away the affiliate revenue that those viewers may intentionally be attempting to provide to said creator.<br><br>The users were getting scammed by being denied the coupons that Honey has in their possession unless the user paid the subscription, and the people that Honey was sponsoring to advertise for them were being scammed from the deprived affiliate revenue.<br><br>Oh, Honey also used to just scrape whatever discount code entered by a browser with the extension installed, even when not used. This meant that codes like employee discount codes were added to Honey&apos;s database, sometimes leading to employees being accused of fraud against their employer from the improper employee discount code use. Imagine just working at a place that gives a code for free product or services to employees as a benefit, and that code is scraped by some techbro extension developer and misused to the point that the fraud department is involved.

  Yes, Honey was found to be a scam, just not for its users, it scams creators by removing the reference code automatically and substituting the code with its own.
