  You are an optimist. I was a child of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Food was gone in 24hrs after Kennedy went on TV. Shelves were totally bare for a week.

  We live in a deeply rural region with privately owned redundant water, food, and energy sources.  The largest town in the area is barely 5000 people and we live miles outside of that.  There is so much locally grown food that societal collapse will come later than in urban areas.  That said... it will still come.

  I live on the edge of Mesa in Arizona. There is a canal that uses gravity to distribute water from the Salt River a quarter-mile from my house. &nbsp;Remove the people taking water out of it upstream and it will overflow the canal walls downstream. &nbsp;There are canals spread across the whole valley where Phoenix sits. &nbsp;The Salt River itself is just 14 miles north of me and it won’t go dry. <br><br>The heat is what kills. &nbsp;People around here don’t know how to survive the heat. &nbsp;That heat will go away in a couple of years after it kills off the population, because the canals will act like artificial rivers. &nbsp;The vegetation is what does it. Plants turn sunlight into sugar instead of radiant heat. Where the plants grow and the rivers flows, it is usually 10-15 degrees cooler, even in the heat of the day. As vegetation overgrows the canal banks, there will be nice cool channels cut across the valley floor. <br><br>I’m sitting in my garage without air conditioning right now. It’s a little over 85 degrees where I am sitting and it’s 110 at Mesa Gateway airport, a few miles away. &nbsp;My place is designed to survive the temperatures. &nbsp;Lots of shade and lots of airflow is how you survive.

  i left SoCal because I hated the experience of blasting heat and no rain. &nbsp;That&apos;s not sustainable.

  Leave and go Where??? Especially if you have small children and elderly..When you run, you just die tired!!!...
