How to Overwinter Pepper Plants for Huge Pepper Harvests!

  Hey everyone! 2026 Jack here - I filmed this video way back in 2022, so it’s crazy to see it start to tick up views this summer! I am really happy to hear it is still helping some of you guys out. If you are just finding my page via this video then welcome! I hope you’ll stick around to check out my other gardening videos and pepper recipes. This video has a lot of recurring comments, so I’ll try to post some helpful responses here: <br><br>“What about watering” - They need very little water since there are minimum leaves. Only water when the soil has completely dried. For me, that was around 3-4 times in 3 months. For your space I can’t give a concrete schedule, just feel about an inch down in the soil and water when it is dried out. <br><br>“Can I do it in my shed, attic, car trunk, grandma’s basement, etc. etc.” - I don’t know your space! If it gets below 32F / 0C, then the plants will die. You need some indirect light, and a cool, but not freezing area. <br><br>“Just bring them inside” - go for it!! To be honest, all this pruning, washing, etc. are more for our comfort indoors than for the plants. I want something small that I can put out of the way, and I don’t want to worry about bugs. Last year I brought in a plant that was in a 5 gallon bucket without doing anything. Within a month it had lost all its leaves to an aphid infestation, and I had an ant problem coming from the pot. That being said though, the plant did make it through the winter and is bearing fruit in 2026! <br><br>Keep dropping any other questions in the comments, and I’ll try to answer them all! Also, let me know if you try this and it works! I love hearing the success stories. Lastly, I’ll just mention that I’ve learned a lot in the 4 years since I made this. Please have some grace on the small things, like me using loppers instead of shears, calling my trowel a “small shovel”, the brand potting soil I bought, etc. Just trying to have fun in the garden and share some knowledge!

  I grow peppers for my son&apos;s business, even purchased ladybugs for the greenhouse for the bug problem. I then learned that putting 1 inch of sand over the soil stops them from breeding.

  Last year I overwintered a few pepper plants. I did not bother with rinsing their roots, simply planted root balls into grow pots with fresh compost mixed with sand and a bit of slow release fertilizer. No problems whatsoever. This year they not only gave me peppers sooner than new peppers, but also produced twice more peppers than last year.

  So glad you showed how to prune and put a lot of emphasis on cleaning the root ball. Nothing worse for a gardener than inviting pests into the home. Thank you

  The worst fungus gnat explosion I ever had came from a bag of Miracle Grow. You need to dump it into a plastic tub, then pour boiling water over it, and cover for 24 hours.

  If you mix neem and water in a bucket you can soak rootball for a few minutes instead of wasting a lot of the ground. 😊

  I wouldn&apos;t cut them back so much &nbsp;👉👉but do trim. the branches shorter to the KNUCKLE, don&apos;t go past the KNUCKLE &nbsp; &nbsp;Some new pet moss, and potting soil, &nbsp;make them really take off&gt; During spring and summer try cloning the cutting. I get about 75% return on the cloning. This will give you a big head start rather than from seeds. Plus you can choose the seeds from the plant, you want to save to plant. I look for plants producing big pods, and more peppers! &nbsp;Those are the ones i clone and save seeds from

  How ive been overwintering my plants for years(even have pics to show it with snow outside my window) is just grab the plant from outside dont cut anything, reduce watering and just leave it be. Bring it out every may-june canada edmonton weather.

  I have a pepper plant going on 4, years old. No cutting back-Brought in every year before frost. Peppers year round. Plant is 48 inches tall.<br>Potted.
