  And, for what it's worth, the "Avodath Hakodesh" is one of my four most favorite pieces of music, along with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Handel's "Messiah," and Monteverdi's "Vespro Della Beata Vergine."

  Composed while Bloch lived in Roveredo Capriasca, in le Tessin, near Lugano. It is "almost in the mountains."  "This work saved his life.  He is on the verge of collapse  from loneliness, despair, discouragement,and  unfulfilled instincts." (Ernest Bloch family biographical notes) He suffered from chronic insomnia and deeper, longer depression than in the past. First performed on the piano at the Menuhin home, in France, in the presence of Georges Enesco.

  I&apos;m lucky to have performed this magic, wonderful work more than once. &nbsp;1st time at Valley Beth Shalom as part of a choral festival and once at Beverly Hills High School with Choral Society of Southern Calif. with Joel Pressman conducting.<br>Jackie Shapiro

  A beautiful and inspiring work. I was lucky enough to perform in the chorus as part of Dartington (Devon, UK) Summer School&apos;s &nbsp;programme of Jewish music way back in the late1990/early 2000&apos;s (I think).

  I confess I&apos;m not a big Bernstein fan, not that I&apos;m familiar with much of his work. &nbsp;I definitely dislike his conducting of Beethoven&apos;s 9th and Handel&apos;s Messiah, but this, I feel to be THE best version of the &quot;Avodath Hakodesh.&quot;

  I hope I live long enough to sing this piece! &nbsp;It feels like being at the gates of heaven. Thanks for sharing this. &nbsp;Todah rabah! &nbsp;P.S. &nbsp;Who are the soloists? &nbsp;Awesome!

  Is this the same as the Columbia Masterworks ML 5621 (mono) or MS6221 (stereo) recordings? &nbsp;I have the vinyl (ML 5621) but am unsure if this is the same recording.

  En effet c&apos;est une cantata hébraïque, comparable à les oeuvres de Haydn et Haendel.
