Warhammer community is probably my favorite. My little brother got interested and the older guys at the game shop would completely pause their epic battles that took hours to set up. Just to teach him painting tricks and even let him practice with their army knowing they'd likely lose.

It was like watching a chess grandmaster letting a kid control the bishops and another kid control the rooks.

Nerds are something special.

I was fortunate enough to run a 90 member touring theatre company and two Renaissance Faires for 44 years. I formally retired this past Summer. We centered on being Elizabethans, speech, clothing, and mannerisms. They all knew how to drop to their knee and bow their head correctly, which was to present their neck to be accessible to be beheaded. I only played the Queen once, and I must admit it was great fun watching everyone around me drop to one knee when I got close. There are things you learn to say regarding their removal of their hats or their dropping to a position to be beheaded, the term is recover. It was directly connected to the hat, not the fleeting panic of pissing off the queen. Some of my company enjoyed brining their arms back behind themselves in a gesture of submission while presenting their neck for the ax. Troupe law, never give me a sword. Yes I do know how to fight with one. I preferred a Gladius. I think that my company believed better safe than sorry about that one. I have a good number of noble costumes still in my closet. Ruffs, corsets, caps, hoops galore. My most funny behavior happened in Kensington Garden, when Elizabeth I took over. My husband watched my back straighten as if I was in a corset, and my walk change as if I was wearing a hoop skirt and had to stop himself from laughing. In my head I could hear Elizabeth saying "What are all these peasants doing in Robert's garden". This is what can happen to actors who get way to into their characters.
