This one really touched me, I'm so bad at putting what I feel into words, but this was beautifully done, thank you

So inspiring!! Thank you so much all of you for your service. I just ordered the book. i’m a therapist serving a different population, but your approach aligns with the direction I feel like is most impactful. Another book I read that resonates with what you do and helped frame my work is. The Connection Cure, Julia Hotz.

I like the fact that he looked at psychosis from the viewpoint of living well with it rather than it being life ending. I have enjoyed watching both Kit and Cody because they show that a mental illness diagnosis doesn't mean the end, it just means adjusting to your new situation.

I'm glad he touched on the negative symptoms (specifically avolition) because for some of us it's the most debilitating part of the illness.

Nice video you guys, I'm now wondering if psychotherapy would help me live a life of, let's say, "higher quality". I was hospitalized for a manic episode 18 years ago, and when I was discharged, I was just prescribed meds but nobody even mentioned a psychologist. I only get to do periodic control appointments with a psychiatrist, mainly I guess to adjust the meds if needed. I'm meds compliant for 18 years now, no positive symptoms but huge amount of negative symptoms, which I guess is a combination of "me" (my laziness) and meds. Again, I wonder if therapy would help there and I'll consider bringing this up to my psychiatrist next time I go to control appointment. Thank you guys :)

when I do more... I DON'T feel better. It's frustrating, overwhelming, and I feel sick. I need to lie down. I can get into my hobbies, maybe... 2 times a year. I have the internal motivation, but actually doing things almost never happens.

    26:53 -ish

That is attachment, and having even a very rudimentary form of attachment can really help anyone, especially psychotic personalities. Attachment allows us to experience real and congruent emotions. And the more emotions that are real and congruent, the better we can become forming narratives.
Think if it as "I felt this emotion now. I wonder if or where it came up in the past? And I wonder might be possibly different, perhaps similar in the future?" And that also goes into identity formation and a lot of other things.

I honestly believe one of the best springboards for any psychotic person, is showing that you and perhaps they can relate in quite a fundamental way. Human to human.

And the belief thing, I tend to think of it as a very, very primary, preverbal and unconscious set of questions that cannot really be answered. Questions pertaining to Who? > Where? > When? >What? > Why? > Will?
"Who?" and "Where?" questions seem the most disruptive and damaging, and as they progress the more easier it may be to "recover", or I like to say adapt.

Nice episode. The therapist came across as warm and caring. However, if I hadn't already read a book about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Schizophrenia, I wouldn't have understood how it works from this interview. From what I've read, it can be especially helpful with delusional thinking. One thing mentioned in the book I read was that sometimes you can get to the psychological reasons for the delusion. For example, grandiose delusions may stem from lack of self-esteem, which then can be worked on with the CBT psychologist.

Kody briefly mentioned EMDR therapy, which can help with trauma. Kit has mentioned DBT, which can be helpful with mood/emotions (helpful for schizoaffective, less likely to be helpful for schizophrenia).

Glad you did an episode on CBT. Maybe in future could interview therapists for a deep dive into EMDR and DBT?
