I wasn’t really ready for the poignant reminiscing at the end of the video, but I choked back tears all the same. My own connection to, and fascination with Sonor comes from my father too. These drums aren’t just instruments, they’re family and the love for them runs very, very deep.

I admire and honour what you’re doing here keeping these magnificent drums alive. ❤

One of the absolute best series of drums ever made. I love my Designers!
Thanks also to St Drums for helping me with some replacement rubber parts a few years ago - Including those bass drum bellows!

What a fantastic video. Was not expecting that heartfelt ending. Props to you and your dad for all you do for the community and for history!

Excellent and very informative video! Like many here have said, the ending was an awesome tribute to your Dad and his legacy. I dealt with him quite a few times over the years regarding spare parts and it was always a top notch experience.

Being a huge Sonor fan since the 80’s, I’m lucky enough to own quite a few vintage Sonor kits (Signatures, Lites, HiLites, Phonics) but Designers still remain my favorite in terms of best sounding. Sure there are some quirks with the hardware and rubber bits here and there but the advancements in resonance put them over the top for me. Currently have Designers kits in Maple Light, Maple Heavy, and Birch and they all sound absolutely amazing. My holy grail would be a set in Beech but I believe there were only several of those ever made so very rare indeed. BTW regarding the question at 25:50, I do have a 8x14 snare (with Vintage Maple shell and internal tunesafes) that has a Designer badge stating “Maple Light”. Like Beech, there never was a VM Designer badge to they simply went with ML badges. The internal stamp on that drum dates it as 2007 so right in that overlapping Designer/SQ2 production timeline.

Looking forward to checking out your other Sonor vids!

I was thinking that this was immediately a new favorite Sonor related video long before getting to the end. The tribute to your father and the Sonor introduction hit home so hard. My Dad introduced me to Sonor in the late 90’s and it would have been his birthday two days ago on the 25th. Thanks so much for this piece as well as your commitment to producing parts that Sonor no longer offers so that maybe one day these heirloom caliber drums can be cherished and enjoyed by our children.

Das beste Video, das ich zu Sonor und speziell Designer je gesehen habe. Ich spiele seit über 20 Jahren ein Designer und habe nie etwas wirklich besseres gesehen. Vielen Dank an St. Drums!!!

A beautiful sentiment to your Dad. These drums are so beautiful too. I always thought the hardware was more marketing hype than function and that the true genius of the veneer finishing choices was under appreciated. I first saw a kit at Sam Ash in the early 90’s. I was mesmerized at the details and quality. But the price and weight were eye watering. And then the market changed, thin and light were in, big hair was gone. Thanks for the well researched post.

You should do a video on the quite unique first-generation S-class. I've owned on for over 25 years!

The Sonor kits from the 80s and 90s are most beautiful, durable and with an exquisite sound. I always liked those power toms and those big bass drums. Thanks for the video, greetings from Chile.
