William Evans closed their London premises back in January 2026. They have consolidated their business at their location in Bisley. Great video. I knew about William Evans, in fact the guns they offer today are built by Grulla in Spain and Perazzi in Italy. Cheers

"The work speaks only to those who hold it—the history required words." That ending really stayed with me. It's amazing how true craftsmanship can outlive generations even when the maker is forgotten. Which overlooked gunmaker do you think deserves more recognition today?

What stood out to me wasn't just the craftsmanship, but how many great makers fade from history simply because nobody documented their story. It's amazing that William Evans guns are still being carried in the field over a century later—that says more than any advertisement ever could.

This is not quite correct, William Evans was not known as a gunmaker but as a clerk, or front of house for Purdey. He was clearly a very good businessmen that took advantage of the maelstrom of popularity of Victorian, Edwardian and inter-war sporting guns.
He sourced very high quality guns from W C Scott in Birmingham, in "the white" and likely finished them in his workshops in London.
Still high quality guns, and had a very good reputation, particularly with young gadabouts from London's gentlemans clubs who were on his doorstep.
Evans moved to St James' because the Pall Mall premises were bombed in the war.
