Many of the convicts in Australia's early white settlement days were Irish. Despite the hardships they survived and have many decendents here.

That isolation stuff really depends on which place you are in obviously. If I drive from Brisbane I pass other cities and towns often up and down the coast. Near Brisbane (pop 2.8m) we have the larger cities of Gold Coast (700k), Sunshine Coast (400k), Toowoomba (190k). That is an area around the size of half of Ireland. And then other cities and towns after that. Perth is famously isolated. From Brisbane to Perth is a similar distance as from Dublin to Cairo. A totally different world.

I worked on a station up at halls creek took us 6 hours to get to town on a bumpy track and if it rained you couldnt move at all i loved it

I think Adelaide is counted as "regional" for working holiday visa work. Something to keep in mind if trying to avoid dodgy farm work. I think you can also do hospitality jobs in Cairns as well.

You sound like you were in the Tropics if you saw a snake so soon. The Royal Flying Doctors Service plane doctors would probably apply the anti-venom. Look them up if you haven't read about them. They're amazing. Just apply the compression bandage right up the limb, and then DONT MOVE. Compression bandage from bottom to top of limb and then not moving is incredibly important. Always carry a snake kit if going to rural areas. I dont know anyone who's been bitten by a snake in my long lifetime as a city person who camps sometimes. Only 2 to 3 snake deaths on the whole continent every year. And that includes people who are bothering them. No spider deaths for ~50 years.
