They’d gone to the tower cam, saw some power flashes, panned slightly to the camera’s left- and there was the monster in all its horrific glory. The newsroom went from professional to desperately trying not to panic in the time it takes you to reach the period at the end of this sentence.

  Im from Joplin. I was 19 when it hit, and worked search and rescue. That shit was life changing, and still haunts me to this day

  My entire family and me were directly hit by this Tornado. - I was 11, playing outside just by JHS, when I noticed the giant green cloud above my house - then parents yelling at me to get inside.<br><br>As soon as we closed the bathroom door, The Tornado was actively hitting our house. I remember my step-dad fighting to keep the door closed against the wind while we huddled in the bathtub. Catholic Charities eventually helped us rebuild. <br><br>We are still living in the same house 15 years later and I&apos;m 26 now.

  Ethan, thank you for bringing up the post-trauma fungus. So many healthcare providers are completely unaware of this risk. We studied it in microbiology and it is a nasty way to die

  The most horrific part of this video was hearing specific injuries sustained by certain individuals. Skin abraded and peeled off people, shards of glass impaling people, people ripped out of vehicles and thrown hundreds of feet, and metal sign posts skewering people where they stood. Absolutely terrible.

  I remember being a kid seeing the videos and pictures of Joplin. I was 10 and I was horrified at what I saw. I begged my parents to sent a box of stuff to them. Lots of food and first aid items. But I was so sad for the kids that I put my favorite stuffed animal in it because they needed it more. <br><br>It wasn&apos;t long after that I would go through a tornado myself. Thankfully no where near the same level, but still terrifying. It made me even more certain that sending the box was the right choice.

  At the Walmart and home depot it wasn&apos;t mentioned that every single person who chose to leave the stores instead of taking shelter died. I worked for Walmart in 2014 in Kansas City and that fact was part of our training on tornado safety.

  My mother&apos;s dedicated trucking route took her through Joplin, and that day she arrived on scene only 1.5 hours after the tornado. Even from her detoured route she got an eyeful of the devastation, and this tough-as-nails woman has nightmares about it to this day.

  I grew up in Joplin, lived in Arkansas in 2011 but lived in Joplin again later and ended up in the rebuilt mercy ICU. Asked a nurse why the windows looked a little weird and she told me they were rated for 250mph winds 😵‍💫

  My best friend took his life in March of 2011 and his mom worked at St John&apos;s and was working on the 22nd. I will always remember her describing the distinct noise of windows imploding and the train sound of the tornado. Being in the upper floors, if you couldn&apos;t get downstairs fast enough, your best course of action was to go to the midmost location of whichever floor your were in. In the midst of the chaos she described being at peace because she had accepted she would see her son again. She survived, of course, and is doing great. But what a contrast and terrifying experience.
