how can you say it was not done by force yet proceed to list all the ways in which we were systemically left no choice but to adapt to be able to take part in our own society? Just because it wasn't done physically by sword doesn't mean it wasn't forced through other means. Taking away rights, introducing significant advantages and tax breaks to those who convert/learn arabic, encouraging people to change their identity and heritage, effectively getting the people to erase their own cultural identity themselves, just so they can have access to the same basic rights, and be normal members of their own country, How is this not all considered forced?

Why does everyone handle Arab colonization with kids gloves and never say that it was in fact, colonization?

What's so wrong in saying that Muslim Arabs colonized the Middle East and beyond? As if those ancient civilizations saw the Arab Islamic culture and said "let's get rid of our traditions and embrace theirs". Of course there was the use of force, that's how civilizations clash but whenever I see this topic people look afraid and hesitant. You can say there was a colonization aspect in Muslim invasions.

“Lower taxes” is a nice way of saying that they taxed anyone who wasn’t Muslim

I just feel sad for people who lost their culture, tradition, language and religion and still stay oblivious to it

Came to say that forcing people to speak and change their cultural identity to fit in their own land was never done peacefully. Glad to see the comments pointing that out, now I have more faith in people

Thank you so much guys. I feel so validated in the comments 😂 because she keeps emphasizing that the shift wasn’t done by force but then keeps showing ways people were forced/coerced to convert or learn Arabic. It was force and there was violence involved. We do not have to rewrite history we just need to tell it as it was

    "Not done by force".

10 mins later into the video:
"For many copts adapting linguistically was not a choice but a necessity".

While saying explicitly how they were actually forced to speak Arabic after centuries of occupation.

Why try so hard to make it sound like it wasn't that big of a deal and as if was "mostly peaceful"?
