I did this job for over twenty-five years on the Central Line / Bakerloo Line / Metropolitan Line Tube. Once you’re fully established the pay is over £70,000 and good holiday entitlement which is pretty good compared to a lot of other shift work. Performance is monitored constantly, and a big part of the role is dealing with defects and hitting the various KPI (key performance.Indicators) and CSI (customer satisfaction index) the actual driving of the trains is the easy part. The trains are fully automatic, so most of the time you’re monitoring the system and the track ahead. You only really drive manually in the depots or if there’s a problem with the ATP system. For the money it’s a relatively straightforward job once you know it — a lot of the skill is in handling the defects and the paperwork, not in driving the train itself. Very isolated, job, alone in that cab for hours, the only thing you look forward to is the break when you reach a terminus. Train is not air-conditioned, hot in summer, freezing cold in winter. Probably worst of all is all that dust you breathe.. oh.. nearly forgot.. The constant loud noise from the train itself.. It's not quite in there, radio, warning chimes from ATP (automatic train protection) ect. This is a very brief look by Nick to show what Tube Night Shift Work is like. But it doesn't show the tiredness, stress and fatigue this job entails.

Never thought I'd be captivated watching someone drive a train, but this was fascinating to watch. No pointless intros and no bs, just straight to the point, love it.

It&apos;s been great having the night tube in London. We have all benefited immensely.<br>The night bus is not as hectic, as it used to be pre-night tube.

You&apos;re bringing in plenty of engineers to the country to help fix the trains, so that&apos;s a plus.
