"I'm the only person in the world doing this specific action" is a pretty rad way to view your craft

6:40 "You have a favorite brand of needlefile?" What an excellent question to break whatever tension was left in the convo! Absolutely banging video

I could happily watch the 6 hour directors cut of this, it's amazing seeing the skill of these small companies.

I love how they arent really scared to share any trade secrets because no other company is going to go through all this non corner cutting.

My favorite part of this video isn't seeing the pieces processes, but seeing how grateful each craftsman was that Alec showed genuine enthusiasm, knowledge on the crafts, and was able to ask questions and appreciate tools in ways that most TV/YouTube presenters are either not qualified for or don't have the personality to convey.

When someone comes to my workplace to make a film or an interview they always send someone who knows absolutely nothing about our profession. Since they know nothing about or job they dont really ask questions, they just let us speek. They cannot ask good questions and the end product is boring for us, boring for the interviewer, and boring for the target audience. What Alec is doing is the exact opposite of this, thats why I love this.

Wow‼That so elegant ! I'm a student at a Japanese technical university. I was impressed to see such amazing techniques. Traditional techniques are truly wonderful. I'm looking forward to putting into practice the techniques I learned in this video. There are many traditional techniques in Japan, so I want to make sure they don't go out of fashion.良い学びをありがとう。

Dang, that workshop has their uniform game on point. Not sure how practical a tie is in a workshop, but props for the consistency.

What they call "spotting" is called perlage in watchmaking, and the tools used are called pin polishers. The rubber of the pin itself is impregnated with different sizes of grit instead of having it in paste form. The rubber is also offered in a variety of hardnesses and diameters. The pins are held by a small collet which fits into a drill press.

In the UK the supplier to see about them is Cousins. They are quite inexpensive. The collets are a few pounds each and the pins are a few pence each.
