SHADOW & KAYDEE DEFEND THEIR TERRITORY TOGETHER! CHORTLES TURN INTO WARNING CALLS & A CHASE! 9.19.26

The morning begins with Shadow & Kaydee in the Roost Tree together sharing beautiful chortles together. Kaydee will jump down a branch to be closer to Shadow before she flies off to the Cactus Snag. Shadow flies to Lookout Snag. Later in the morning, they both are found perched in Twin Pines. Shadow will fly off and Kaydee follows. Later Shadow is back on Twin Pines but he flies off suddenly. At dusk, we hear Shadow vocals - they are louder and more sharp. These don't sound like his normal chortles - they are warning calls. In the distance two more eagles vocals are heard. It sounded like Kaydee and another eagle. Shadow will continue to send out warning vocals when we suddenly see two eagles flying in from the right to left, passing the nest tree and heading towards the Roost Tree. It appears one eagle is chasing the other. Then a few seconds later we see two eagles coming from the left to the right - one was chasing or escorting the other eagle out of the territory. Shadow & Kaydee defended their territory together for the first time and did a great job. My take on what happened is Shadow was on the Roost tree and heard and saw what was taking place. His vocals were loud and clear so he was very close by. Kaydee chased the other eagle & she lands in the roost tree, Shadow flies off and gives chase to the other eagle and escorts out of the area. No eagles are seen flying back to the roost tree. When the cam panned to the Roost Tree we see one eagle is there - it is Kaydee. She roosted alone and Shadow roosted in a near by tree. This makes sense as Shadow was still in defense mode for his territory. In the morning, we know it was Kaydee in the Roost tree and she meets up with Shadow on Lookout Snag! Great job Shadow & Kaydee on defending the territory! This is an important development because defending a nest or territory is a bonding exercise for a pair of eagles.
