We should be glad that the Chinese EVs came into Singapore and started a price war on their cars filled with features and fresh designs. As you mentioned in the video, entry level CLA with such interior ? At least they are trying now. Traditional carmakers have been shortchanging us consumer with their rubbish interior and features for their entry and mid level models, can you imagine paying 4k for rear air cons ? Now we see the entry Chinese EVs with ventilated seats and some even with massage functions, these were only available on the higher trims of the “ luxury “ brands.

Anyways, good to see the legacy carmakers wake up their idea, for some at least, for those that refuse to do so, guess they are running out of time.

TLDR ; competition is good for us consumers, it eliminates the crap and leave the best for us 😂

This video explores whether 2026 is the right time to buy an electric vehicle (EV) in Singapore, following observations from the Singapore Motorshow 2026. While EVs are now seen as inevitable, potential buyers face a complex landscape involving changing incentives and market saturation.

Key Considerations for 2026 Buyers:

• Cost & Rebates (3:49 - 6:41): EV rebates have decreased from $40,000 in 2025 to $30,000 in 2026. This means buyers of higher-tier models (with an ARF over $30,000) will likely face higher upfront costs.
• COE Uncertainty (7:31 - 11:27): COE remains the biggest wild card. The speaker suggests that COE prices are likely to remain stable rather than plummeting or skyrocketing, advising buyers not to wait indefinitely if they have a genuine need for a vehicle.
• EV Technology (12:27 - 17:32): The speaker argues against waiting for "next-gen" tech like solid-state batteries or full autonomy, noting that current LFP/NMC battery technology and existing Level 2 ADAS features are already mature and sufficient for most daily needs.
• Brand Choices (17:32 - 24:19):
• Market Leaders: BYD and Tesla remain dominant but are facing increased competition and "EV fatigue" from consumers.
• New Entrants: Budget-friendly brands like GAC, MG, and Xpeng are gaining traction.
• Legacy Brands: Japanese brands like Honda, Mazda, and Subaru are finally entering the EV space, which may appeal to more traditional buyers, though they face stiff competition from Chinese manufacturers.

Summary Advice (24:20 - 27:17):
• First-time buyers: 2026 offers the most choices ever, making it an exciting time to enter the market.
• Current owners with 1-2 years of COE left: Now is a good time to switch to avoid further rebate reductions in 2027.
• Current owners with 3+ years left: It is generally better to hold onto your current car as technology continues to evolve and prices potentially drop further.

After doing extensive homework across a quite large number of brands and models, I just took delivery of the Aion V, luxury model, in Sydney, Australia. Very happy with the car and, at least here, it's great value for money when considering the features it offers.
