At 9:00 you say the metal shingle has a low emissivity. That means it has a low emission of heat, not high. Looking at their website, the dark colored shingles have a low solar reflectivity, a high absorptivity, and a high emissivity. That means it will get very hot when exposed to the sun, but shed that heat quickly when shaded or it's dark. To get a high reflectance and low absorptivity, you'll have to choose a light color finish. Every finish has basically the same high emissivity value.

I'm know I'm not a commercial builder, but i've decided im going to go with copper, melted/cast - hand stamped to the right thickness - bent and trimmed and beveled, liver of sulfer to turn it black. It's going to be a labor of love. Plus, it'll be a 200 year roof for the same price minus personal labor. But I've gotta do my windows first, then roof, then siding, then gutters. i think I am going to go with anchored chain gutters as well - old school, plus, I like the look like the house is chained to the ground hahah, the back gutters will runoff into a water collection tank for garden/pool. Thanks Matt for the vid!

Great episode. In Texas, a HOA can't restrict Standing Seam roofs. They get passed because of their wind and fire ratings. I just had a 24 gauge standing seam roof installed. The HOA only restricted my color options, which was fine. It looks amazing ❤😊

Every time he showed the full roof, you could see dents all over the place from people walking on it. I think the metal isn't thick enough.

Asphalt shingles have come a long way.

As the owner of a successful roofing company I’ve see it all, it’s better value to go with a rubberized asphalt than metal when it comes to longevity

And adding Solar to a Standing Seam roof is super easy. For Standing Steam roofs, they make special clips that clip on the ribs. It's easy and doesn't require puncturing any holes in the roof.
With asphalt, they drill holes - and you get leaks.

Similar metal shingles were available in the early 2000's and discontinued because of the housing crash in '08/'09. I had a customer that had the stamped metal shingles on her house that was built in 2005. A small area of her roof was damaged in a storm and it was impossible to source the stamped metal replacement shingles because the company that produced them went out of business years ago. I searched all over the U.S. and even overseas with no luck. She had to pay for an entire new roof. She chose asphalt shingles for the replacement.

We installed those exact shingles on my brothers roof probably 10 years ago. They still look as good as the day they were installed.
I don't think the price was tremendously higher than high quality asphalt, but install was a bit slower. I think it took the 3 of us about 3 days to do the whole roof, which was pretty good. Plus the mfg advised we just throw underlayment down over the existing shingles, so we didn't need to spend a full day tearing the old roof off.

I wish I had seen this last year when I got my roof replaced. I switched architectural shingles and when I went to sell my house a year later, I had to replace 8 bundles because of defects.

I would go with standing seam, since I do like the look of it.

My neighbor has one of these. Metal shingles. Looks fantastic! They’ve had some wasp challenges and unfortunately…he no longer has cell service in his home. He’s always out on the front porch making calls. I’m sure there’s a solution but it’s kind of funny.
