  From watching docs about disasters since I was a kid, the number one lesson I learned is to never ever trust government or authorities to help or save you. Rely on yourself and that is it.

  Its amazing how the Suoerdome got rebuilt in record time for the upcoming football season, but people's homes remained yet destroyed 12 years later. Nice job, NFL.

  We had the means to get out, but my mom asked if we wanted to go to the Dome. We just stared at her because we just hate crowds. We ended up leaving the day before instead. We could not have possibly imagined so much weight being on that one decision. Even 20 years later I cannot wrap my mind around it. My heart still aches for those who couldn't leave. There was a man who lost his wife and was interviewed crying. I think about it often.

  They actively stopped normal people from trying to help for "safety reasons" but in actuality people just died waiting for help.

  21 years 😢 so many lost souls lost their lives by staying and not being able to leave the wards are still trying to breathe and catch the breaths this storm left behind . Thank you EMTS COPS AND FIREFIGHTERS FOR EVERYTHING SAVING THE PEOPLE YOU COULD

  I still can’t believe they didn’t have mandatory evacuations for anyone below sea level. I know it’s not an easy position to have to leave everything but this was the alternative and these poor people weren’t treated well at all. Unfortunately we saw similar mismanagement and FEMA failures with the 2024 hurricane Helene.
