My homestead makes absolutely no money. And I love my life.

Perfect info. Homestead is NOT a business. Its a lifestyle. Life costs money. Any income is a reduction of costs, only.

My husband passed away 18 months ago. I had to sell our home so I bought a little home with an acre of land. Although I’ll never have most of the animals you use, I get a lot of advice from you and you really make me feel like I can make my small little piece of land into my sanctuary.
Thank you for these videos.

This is such a nice video. My “why” is to be more self sufficient and to be able to provide eggs to the people we know. But the biggest reward of all is the chickens themselves. They bring so much joy to our lives.

I very much make negative money on my homestead. But it's worth it to know where our food comes from

Yep, I agree with the chicken eggs! My cost per egg is basically $1.00 per EGG. My eggs taste awesome compared to those from the grocery store. I absolutely get much more comfort from my chickens than going to therapy. ❤

I'm 70 yrs old and feel like I've become a doomsday prepper by building a tiny house, using solar power and hoping to add a wind turbine or two. I own my property which is only 3/4 of an acre. I've raised rabbits, chickens and pygmy goats and now because of what I've learned from you I can put them all on the same space. I'm using two greenhouses and raised beds and I just want to reach self-sufficiency.

I operate my homestead like a business, with the intent of making as close to no profit (loss is good!) to offset taxable income. Egg sales effectively pay for the locally-milled feed, and I can write off any infrastructure costs. My cost per egg is $0.36, my revenue per egg is $0.33, so any of the high quality eggs we eat cost ~$0.03 each.

so we are starting our own homestead here in Florida, i talked to my tax person and she said that you should 100% create a official farm business for your homestead. everything is a write off when it comes to it and the amount of things you qualify for is astronomical, not to mention since you are a "worker" on your homestead if you apply for USDA loans to buy more property you can qualify for special farm loans because you have "experience" working on a farm. no to mention writing off the feed for your animals is a god send cause them chickens be HUNGRY lol but just some advice from a nobody on the internet that got an extra 6k on my tax refund from doing it :)

I assumed "homesteading" was the same as a hobby farm.
And hobbies COST money. Very rarely does a hobby ever become profitable. Even if you sale your art, or eggs, or crochet or goat milk, the money you make is always put right back into the hobby that you love!

I don't care if my homestead is profitable per se. It makes my family more secure in every way, and that's what I'm after.

Great video. The only money we make is eggs and that goes on feed.
