ER SCHRIEB DIE SCHÖNSTEN SÄTZE DER DEUTSCHEN SPRACHE — BETRUNKEN UND OBDACHLOS

Vienna, 1932. A journalist is asked about his father—and falls silent. For a full minute. What he says afterward is a lie. Like everything he ever said about himself. Joseph Roth (1894–1939) is considered one of the greatest German-language writers of the 20th century. "The Radetzky March," "Job," "The Legend of the Holy Drinker"—his books are still read in over 40 languages. But the man behind these masterpieces reinvented himself throughout his life: a father he never saw. An origin he denied. A wife who descended into madness—and died in the gas chamber after he himself was already dead. Three women. A thousand lies. A lonely death in Paris at the age of 44. In this film, we tell his whole story—without embellishment and without condemnation. 📚 Books by Joseph Roth: The Radetzky March | Job | The Legend of the Holy Drinker | The Capuchin Crypt | Hotel Savoy 🕯️ Sources: Soma Morgenstern, Hermann Kesten, David Bronsen, Wilhelm von Sternburg #JosephRoth #RadetzkyMarch #GermanLiterature #Exile #Vienna #Paris 🌌 A Gateway to the Hidden Soul of Classicism Immerse yourself in the fascinating secrets behind the lives of great artists and thinkers of German culture!
