  I’ve had guineas for over 30 years. They are my favorite farm bird. They are creatures of EXTREME habit, are extremely dumb , bad mothers and great alarms. They will go feral if not raised with chickens but will return daily for food . I live in nw Florida and there are no bugs including ticks or fleas on my acre not even a roach so no need to spray. They are comical creatures and I can’t imagine my life without them .

  This bird and the goose are excellent watchdogs around my farm. The guinea fowl will let you know. The goose will kick your ass until you return to your car. They each have their place on my farm.

  I feed my little group every evening, I just love them. They are better than any security force. They stay in the bushes around our neighborhood

  They are the silliest creatures and to hear them scream when one loses the flock is hysterical. Very good watch dogs. 😂

  Back in the dark ages when I was a kid ( 1950's ) we had feral Guinea hens in the woods. Some of the one's that wandered into our back yard were delicious.  The neighbor about a 1/4 mile from us had a citrus nursery with seedlings of all sizes. He had a hard time with weeds in his 10 acres so he fenced in sections of it. Then he put geese in there and they picked the area clean of weeds but never touched a single citrus seedling.  Not sure which made the most noise , the Geese of the Guineas when they saw each other.

  My guineas know me and see me as watching out for them.    They are great at flying out of pens but not the best at flying back inside.  They see me coming and know I will open the gate to let them back inside and run to the gate ahead of me

  Be aware.......  Guinea keets are very sensitive to pesticides and toxins.  I gave my 5 keets some black fly larvae.   Within a week 4 out of 5 died.  The keets died of pesticide poisoning.  The brand is called.  COOHGRUBS, made in China.  The keets died slowly and I could not help them.  I'm going to have the black fly larvae tested for pesticides and heavy metals.  No response from COOHGRUBS.  Be aware please.

  Where I live in South Africa we see  them often in bushy areas.  I love them, thanks for all the info appreciated.

  They are alert, but when they are free ranging with my chickens, I lose more guineas than chickens to foxes

  I stay in town with some koppies around. Some mornings and afternoon up to 40 come around as I feed them. If I am a bit late in the morning, they will come up to the door and call. I love the way they run coming to eat.
