I'm portuguese, born in Portugal and I am 38 years old.
I only watched the first 2 minutes.
Indeed, the older, elderly people are used to be called Senhor, Senhora.
That is ugely important when you go into rural (what we call Interior), like old villages, towns. It's a must rule that you respect their age and lifestyle and their life knowledge.
If you are staying on holidays on a rural area for like 7 days, wave and say hello to them. Present yourselves. They will gift you food, kindness and whatsoever.

I had hollidays with my friends in Bragança. We stayed for 2 weeks.
After 4 days or so, we walked past an old man carrying some logs to the truck. He clearly needed a hand. We helped and meanwhile he was asking if we were on vacation because not a lot of new people goes there. We spoke about ourselves and why we were visiting the village.
That was on a morning ehile we weren going into explore. When we got back home, we had a bag of potatoes, some carrots, onions, meat, sausages, etc, everything needed for 2 days of food for us all 5.
God bless them!

Yeah, leave the Spanish behind. If you don't speak Portuguese, English is fine. "desculpe, não falo português, fala inglês?" is a great phrase to memorize when visiting.

Regarding tipping - always a touchy topic, and for good reason. Leaving a tip is not just a transaction between your and the wait staff; it also can put pressure on Portuguese people to start tipping, too. I think there are also some regional variations, and if you are in a very tourist area or not. Generally speaking; not tipping is probably the best approach.

Maybe a 13th thing not to do in Portugal; assume that things are basically the same across Portugal. This may be a small country, but the variety in climate, landscape, culture, and social norms is significant. Don't assume that just because something is true in Lagos, that it will also be that way in Viana do Castelo.

5:25 - As a Portuguese, I can confirm that the best restaurants to eat are the ones that Truck Drivers or Construction Workers go to.
Normally they don't have an huge salary, and if a lot of them go to the same restaurant most likely you can eat there awesome food for a lower price than average
And since they value Time a lot, the restaurant also serves quickly.

Very reasonable advices. Just respect, smile, say "olá", "obrigado", and you will be treated like one of our own. Take care and thank you for the video.

I have walked the Caminho de Santiago from Porto to Santiago de Compostela three times. I LOVE walking through rural Portugal. The people are some of the sweetest I have ever met, the food is some of the best I have ever tried, and the countryside is some of the most beautiful I have ever seen.

I'm Portuguese, I couldn't care less about football, Ronaldo or Messi.
If you say "Gracias", my goodwill towards you ends right there.
Everything else is spot on!

Forget about tipping unless the service is extraordinary and unexpectedly good.

Most of the don'ts on this video apply to anyone visiting abroad, specially in Europe.
Being respectful to people and sacred spaces is what is expected from polite people. Also, not being loud in public or getting drunk.
Trying local food is great anywhere, and the best way is to go where locals go. It's usually tasteful and cost worthy.
I found traffic in Portugal quite organized, but forget "lane driving". In Portugal (and most of Europe), you must stick to the right lane.
I'm from Brazil and I've been living in Portugal for 15 months and I love it.
Since Brazil was colonized by the portuguese, adaptation was quite easy. I guess it's tougher for Americans.
Anyway, it's important that tourists keep in mind that Portugal (and Europe) is not a theme park. It's a deep well of our ocidental culture, and people actually live here.

I'm portuguese and I have a final tip: please don't use a cap indoors. It's not polite at all.

Portugal and Scotland have in common the charm of the smaller towns and villages, be it on the seaside or interior, in the hills of the north or center and the plains of Alentejo.
