  It&apos;s ironic that Ludwig was deposed because people were worried that he would bankrupt Bavaria but his building projects have brought in massive amounts of tourism money over the years.

  I honestly feel sorry for Ludwig. He really wasn&apos;t good at actually ruling, they literally didn&apos;t even give him the necessary training for it to begin with and his personality was the opposite expected of a king at that time. Everything just drove him further into his fantasy world, the one place he felt safe and happy. He likely had snapped or was well on the way (I still firmly believe that &apos;diagnosis&apos; wasn&apos;t worth the paper and ink making it, that doctor didn&apos;t see his patient before and they were pushing their own political interests), but he wasn&apos;t acting like he actually understood the reality of his orders at the end of his reign. The doctor&apos;s &apos;cure&apos; likely would have made things much, much worse. It was a terrible fit for his &apos;patient&apos;. If they just wanted him contained safely, leave him in a library with classics and fairytale collections, plus a nice little puppet show booth. He&apos;d likely have contained himself besides some opera outings, for public appearance sake and good behavior. Let him design some blueprints if he&apos;s cooperating. Not a perfect treatment plan, but it would have been more humane and more likely to work than making him completely miserable and basically kidnapping him. He would have been occupied at least.

  If I had a nickel for every major early modern German kingdom who&apos;s most famous king was very very gay in a time when that was taboo, I&apos;d have two nickels. Which isn&apos;t a lot but it&apos;s crazy that it happened twice.
