Most of the people talking here about how beautifully the song is sung. But nobody is talking about the viewing experience of this song. How beautifully it is picturized. The entire cinema, is an ultimate viewing as well as listening experience. A masterpiece.

This is actually a thumri of banaras Gharana gayaki. this was used in this film and Lata ji sung it in pure thumri style in raag khamaj...
Here there is taste of four styles of singing ,classical, thumri, muzra, and folk of UP.. Greatness on its peak... choreography of great exponent of Lucknow Gharana of kathak pandit lachhu maharaj and Meena ji did ful justice... Salute to all legends..

This song had been running in my mind for last couple of days, so had to stop by and watch it! The mix of Meena Kumari’s pathos and Lata’s melodious voice is like magic. Of course the movie director, music composer/director as well ...

5:49 Meena kumari unmatched.. true beauty .. pure grace...even when she had advanced liver disease. In her earliest films they couldn't ever capture her pure beauty in black and white.
