As a Boston resident, yes. Boston can still smell like molasses on very hot summer days when you visit some of the older areas with cobblestone streets.

Also molasses was used during WW1 to make TNT. Fun little fact on why the heck there was so much in Boston during early 1900s.

5:40 "Late 19th and early 20th centuries" that means anywhere from the 1870s to 1930s so it very well could have been a thing in 1919 Boston.

I introduced my daughters to the pee wee’s playhouse opening sequence… and now I get yelled at anytime there is a talking chair and I start singing the song.

a lot of the deaths in the molasses were people who were inside and in basements, underground floors at the time. which would have filled up with molasses after trapping them. so they'd have been completely covered. so eating their way out wouldnt have been feasible without having their heads free to breathe.
