  My &quot;Bigmamma&quot; and Papaw had a well at the north end of the front porch. &nbsp;It was deep and dark. &nbsp;I had to stand on a step stool to look in and to pull the bucket up. &nbsp;The water was clear and cold and tasted sweet. &nbsp;They lived on a dirt road exactly halfway between Houlka and Bruce, Mississippi. &nbsp;Ive tried to find that road on Google maps, it isnt listed. &nbsp;I still have relatives living on that road but it isnt on any maps. &nbsp;Odd, very odd.

  When I was six i fell through the earth in a cow pasture into a small lake in a very dark place. My head kept above the surface but I swam around the edges 5 times without finding a place to climb out. I lifted my arms from the water to test the rock sides and the water clung like black paint or really old blood like the bucket I found in the butchers shed once when I was where I should not have been. My father once told me that if you cannot solve a problem one way to turn it on its head and then try again. I was cold and getting tired and more than a little scared as I thought through my situation and with the literality of children and absolute faith in my father I dove towards the bottom. As a toddler I had swum before I walked and often felt more at home in water than air so I kept swimming to the bottom of the lake searching for an answer. The darkness got thicker I could not feel any tug of a current, and could barely discern the gleam of skin on my hands and arms. I was so far down I wondered if I had passed the &quot;point of no return&quot; something I had heard adults discussing. I still had some breath so I decided 2 more strokes the try to get back to the surface --I made one then as I began the next I felt warmth surround me and tangle my legs and arms so the stroke could not form and a voice in my head said &quot;SHHH Time to go home --come and play another day&quot;. I felt like I was wrapped in a cocoon but no longer in water or even dark --I saw flickers of light then bright sunshine through leafy branches and I fell with a thump onto the hot dry grass of the Canterbury plains of New Zealand, in mid summer 1959. My clothes were still wet when I arrived home so I said I had played in the river down in the valley. No one questioned me I was always some place I shouldn&apos;t be according to most people. Never found a hole or well or similar and the land was wrong anyway--the land was basically shingle plains with many years of topsoil dropped on it by seasonal floods and winds. There was an aquifer 300 ft down that was found 30 years later but that was &nbsp;way further than I fell. I still keep an eye out for information and stories that may hold clues but the only new thing I realised over the years was that I had a conviction that outside was midwinter and that was probably why I dove rather than climbed --my Dad would never find me in snow and if I wanted to go home I had to find my own way ---perhaps I did.

  I live in East Tennessee in Smokey mountains I grew up in a hollow. as a little girl &nbsp;I would walk all the way to the end there was a old empty house and a creek run through it.their was a huge round pool of water, ankle deep,and it was golden brown!!! I understand how you felt watched, I always was,it could have been a bear, black panther,bobcats anything! My daddy went in the house and looked in the loft he lit his lighter and there was snakes slivering everywhere!!! I always walked alone after that. I was 5yrs old but I remember always feeling uneasy!!! This was a excellent story!!! Thank you!!!
