In the late 1970s I had the 33 preamp, FM3 tuner and the 405 power amp running a Thorens TD-126 and SME 3009 with Signet moving coil and step up transformer driving stacked double Quad ELS loudspeakers. It’s a sound I’ll never forget and yes, kick myself in the ass for ever getting rid of that system.

CORRECTION - The original Quad 33 pre-amp did not have "Tilt" tone control, it had conventional separate bass and treble controls, plus a variable high-cut filter.<br>The tilt control came in with the Quad 44 and Quad 34 preamps in the late 1970's.

Great review. I had the original 33/303 as part of my first “real” set up in the ‘70s with a Linn Sondek LP12 and they really made my IMF TLS80 transmission line speakers dance.

Great review!<br>I've been using a Quad 34 pre, 306 power, 99 CDP and Quad 11 speakers for the past 15 years, and just love the brand.
