  Dr Ian McCrossin...universally known as "Fred"...is a legend of the class. He and his longtime superstar crew "Cookie" dominated the highly competitive FD scene, nationally and internationally, for decades. I've had the pleasure of crossing tacks with them for many years, so when I got the call up to sail with Fred at this regatta, I was bitterly disappointed not to have been able to take up the opportunity - not only to sail with the legend, but to catch up with my mates in the Fabulous FD class. Glad you had that chance and managed to capture him (and the fleet) in action. Great to see my mate "Tracksuit" in the mix too (Blue Deck)!

  He got CHOPPED IN HALF!! by one of the Sydney Harbour Ferries and bless his heart he went UNDERNEATH 😱 and he talks so quietly with humility. Makes me feel like I do when you realize the sea doesn't give a toss how good you think you are. Brilliant man

  Far to many years ago I had a Tempest mast invert downwind, planing, spinnaker up in about 20kts... In the few seconds it took for helm and I to realise what was happening, the mast just snapped at spreaders and gooseneck. To add insult to injury, the Tempest behind us planed over the top of me in the water...... Amazing we were not injured.
