Before 2002, Taiwan didn&apos;t respect international copyright, but did respect international trademarks. This meant that taking out or defacing the company&apos;s name would make a pirated game legal to sell in Taiwan. Whenever you see bootleg games with the publisher stripped out and/or the title screen defaced, typically that means the ROM originates from some Taiwanese bootleg cartridge manufactured during the 90s or early 2000s.
