"Don't put a hamster in the microwave." I remember when that warning sign and the lawsuit went public in the newspaper. Everyone in germany thought that it was a joke. It wasn't.

I have owned a car built in the US that had a warning "This car may go faster than the speed limit".

Sprinkler systems in Germany are called "husbands". You can send them in the garden if you promise a beer after watering the lawn

I think some german gardens are designed to be nature-orientated because a lot of people have strongly the idea of environment protection in general - and helping bees, insects and diversity of species (and enjoying birds, bumble bees and other „guests“ in their yards). <br> I.e. here „bee friendly“ seeds are offered in garden centers and you can buy „bug hotels“.

In this TikTok series "How can you tell that the USA has messed you up", there was a story about the security instructions and the litigiousness of the Americans that I find quite appropriate here.<br><br>The young lady was in England and did the first aid course for the first time outside the USA. She noticed that the point "what do I have to do in order not to be sued later by the accident victim if I make a mistake" was not included.<br>She brought this up and was laughed at by her colleagues, to which the teacher said, "Sweetie - no one will sue you for trying to save their life."

I think the thing with gardening in Germany is based on an environmental approach. Irrigation is wasting huge amounts of water, it’s more responsible to use rain water or an underground pump to irrigate when it’s necessary. The “wild” way of arranging the garden provides a more natural space for birds and bees. If you build a home with a garden, there might even be certain prerequisites like the number of trees in your garden.

In Germany, too, the Post was an authority until 1995, which was then privatized and merged with DHL. Before 1995 there were many more post offices, which were then gradually extremely reduced, or their services were outsourced to kiosks or the like. Since 2013, there has been an opposite trend with the increasing number of online orders, and DHL Paketshops have opened, but they do not accept letters. People are not necessarily happy about these developments.

One day, all products in America will probably have a warning that says: „You may be an imbecile. Do not use this product. Something terrible might happen.“<br>That should finally sufficiently cover manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits.

So many differences, indeed! I think the toilet thing is more like a thing that happens past the bowl. I've noticed there is SO much more water in American toilets than in German ones. German ones only contain enough to cover that siphon trap. Once you flush there's fresh water coming in from the container above and that will push everything down the drain while American toilets seem to somehow first empty the bowl and then replenish fresh water? The German one will not overflow at first flush, even if the drain is blocked. It leves some time to think of something. 😂 I loved that toilet story very much, because LIFE! 🤭

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrlDNlAYhdU&t=645">10:45</a> "grüne wüste"<br>I think the main differences are that <br>a) the us have ordinances that handles what you must do with your lawn and <br>b) that in the us the lawn is kind of a statussymbol while in germany the garden is part of the home and used as livingspace
