Some of the other S tier foods missed in the video:
Main meals:
1. Vareniki - east slavic (and the original!) variant of famous pierogi. Has various types of fillings, I personally prefer the tvorog type. Though pelmeni are still better, in my opinion
2. Rassolnik/Shchi - two types of traditional russian soups, and they serve the role of being the most "average" meals that everyone knows and everyone enjoys. Rassolnik is the salty-sour soup, often prepared with pickles, and schi is the same as borsch but having more cabbage instead of beets.
3. Soup Kharcho. This soup is of Georgian origin, but penetrated the russian culture enough so it's something all russians are familiar with. In terms of the taste iI consider it the tastiest soup ever designed, even better than Borsch (and I am saying it as the borsch fanatic)
4. Tvorog Casserole / Krupenik - baked casserole made out of tvorog, and the second one is the same thing but with grains added (I don't think I ever tasted krupenik though)

Dairy:
5. Kefir - the best dairy ever, both hecking delicious and healthy at the same time. May be an acquired taste though.
6. Toplenoye moloko, Ryazhenka, Snezhok - derivative milk products, very, very tasty on their own. I especially love Ryazhenka with sugar as a little snack.
7. Tvorog - basically quark cheese, but has a less grainy consistence and one of the main fillings in east Slavic cuisine. On it's own best goes with smetana (sour cream).
8. Smetana - sour cream but with higher fat percentage. The main sauce for many dishes like soups, pelmeni, vareniki.

Sweets:
9. Pastila - there's various types of it, but most important are Belyovskaya, and Bashkir/Tatar versions. The Tatar/Bashkir version is a dried fruit puree that is produced in scrolls, and Belyovskaya pastila is simply a very tasty (yet kinda expensive) thing.
10. Chak Chak - very popular tatar/turkic dessert that is made out of fried dough grains covered in honey. Even if it is a tatar dish it is kinda famous in russia overall.
11. Varenye - a homemade jam with no gelling agent and with bits of fruits/berries left. Oftentimes served alongside other desserts like blini and oladyi but also is used for sandwiches as usual.
12. Bulochki - baked bread similar to pirozhki, but with an open filling instead of a closed one. Basically east slavic buns. Most of the times covered in sweet stuff like sugar, smetana, tvorog, varenye, but there can also be potato and sausage types.

Drinks:
13. Medovukha - traditional russian mead with low alcohol %, about the same as the beer. Idk if this drink is special to russia, but it's supposedly different from regular mead. Pretty tasty, oftentimes you wouldn't even taste the alcohol there.
14. Kissel - fruit/Berry drink with a gel like consistence, oftentimes served in various cafeterias.
15. Mors - basically kompot but made out of berries instead of fruits, the homemade version is just boiled water mixed with varenye.
People also like to put honey everywhere, in the tea, or in the milk, I was surprised when I learned that in other countries people don't do it as often.

Thank you whoever has read this far! I wasted an hour on this lmao.

Although I've never been to Russia, I've probably tried about 70% of this list by traveling to every country in the Balkans, and many other Slavic countries. So many of these dishes are shared..and each country will claim the dish as their own. 😂

Insisting that some dishes are Russian or Ukrainian makes no sense. I am Polish and in Poland we have about 80% of the dishes that Roman listed. From a cultural perspective, all Slavic countries are quite similar and claiming that some country has a "monopoly" on some aspect of this common cultural load is absurd.
ps. When Roman was in Poland, he did not eat traditional Polish borscht but some strange variation. Traditional Polish borscht is very similar to what Russians and Ukrainians eat.

As a Russian, there are 4 categories of Russian food.
1. Pesant survival meals (my favourite is Schi)
2. Dumplings (the Pelmeni, originally from the Komi or Udmurt peoples, are classic)
3. French food for the nobility (Beef Stroganoff)
4. Soviet New year abominations (my favourite is the salad with fake crab)

I did hear about another more positive stereotype about central and eastern european food:

"They're kings of making food that looks disgusting but is actually delicious"

Okay, as a Polish person there are three types of Kompot for me
1. The school cafeteria one - it's... mostly bad, not gonna lie, never liked it at school
2. The "I have too many frozen fruits in the freezer and I need to make space for it" - this one is hit or miss, depending on what you're getting rid of and how long it was frozen, go figure
3. The Babcia one - the best thing ever, tastes like childhood, drink it warm, drink it ice cold, doesn't matter. It's the best drink at home
All in all it's all over the list IMHO
Also Shuba is my personal top discovery from my time spent in Ukraine, I love herring since I was a little kid and this just blew my taste buds, seriously. Just overall Eastern Slavic food slaps hard. Except pickled tomatoes, they can go away and don''t look back, they're the reason why God abandoned humanity

    17:50
It is, actually, not a salo. It is belevskaya pastila.
Belevskaya pastila is a regional variety of Russian pastila, which has been produced in the city of Belyovo, Tula region, since the end of the 19th century. It is made from the pulp of baked Antonovka apples whipped with sugar and egg white.
There is also a sugar-free type of this pastila: it contains only apples and egg white.
And it is a really good.
