I think that both the Andal and Reach origins of knights can work seamlessly together. The Andals brought the concept of a knight as a heavily-armoured mouted warrior with feudal obligations to Westeros and the Reach added the concept of chivalry to knighthood based on pre-Andal traditions. These two origin points for knights are still reflected in modern Westeros.
The way I always interpreted it, the Vale and the Reach represent two sides of the knightly coin. Vale knights represent the functional military role of a knight while Reach knights represent the inspiring chivalric ideals of a knight. The two epicenters of the respective two halves of knighthood set the standard, with everyone else being a mix of the two.

“His name was Ser Arlan of Pennytree. And I am his legacy,” says Dunk. “On the morrow, we will show them what his hand has wrought.”

    Westeros families with underrated backstories:
- The Masseys who were the whipping boys for the Storm Kings until they allied with the Targaryens.
- The Darrys who are always on the losing end of some doomed battle.

Possible spoiler for Knight of the Seven Kingdoms TV show.

I think the honor of who bestows knighthood is how Dunk & Egg get around things when it comes time for Egg to be knighted (probably around the Third Blackfyre Rebellion). Dunk will probably confess and Egg will probably have already figured it out. Egg will ask his father to knight him as it's more suitable to his position and a greater honor than by a hedge knight. Egg then privately knights Dunk for real

How ironic Barristan would proclaim such a strong, idealistic stance on honor, when he simply stood by as Kingsguard while Aerys burned people for no concrete reason.

In the real world anyways there was more than just a staus symbol difference between a lord and a landed knight. A lord could sentence and carry put the Kings justice on his lands where as a landed knight would have to take a criminal before the local lord to get a ruiling.

Fun fact: Little Finger's Grandfather was a Bravvosi sellsword who came into the service of a Westerosi Lord and became a landed knight (was given the land in the fingers in the Eeyrie). And from their either his father or Little Finger himself managed to get lands elevated up to a lordship.

Might I make a suggestion for a future video essay? I was thinking about Daenys the Dreamer and her visions which I'm sure will be detailed later in either TWOW or ADOS as Marwyn has pages of her "Signs and Portents" in his possesion and I'm sure it's what motivates him to go see Dany in ADOD. I was wondering why the Targaryeons spent so much time on Dragonstone after they arrived, and potentially spent all their fortune building it, but esentially to become their prison. They could have easily of returned to Essos and conquired/reclaimed the free cities without much resistance and reformed the Freehold using only their 4 drangons. I konw that it's be semi-confirmed that Aegon's (though most likely Daenys) dreamed of the conquest of Westeros and the long night, but there must have been a reason why none of them returned to Essos and only tuned west after a hundred years, and then I thought about it.....when Targaryeons go to Essos, bad things happen. From Maegor, to Jahaerys I's daughters and Aerea to Prince Daemon, to the Blackfyres and Viserys (III) misfortune follows when they go to Essos. It's more than just a coincidence and would explain why the Targaryons never tried to return after the fall of the Freehold. Naturally, this would beg the question - if the curse is real, what does this mean for Dany? Let me know what you think.
