  And in a way, the bravest solution, as all the other young snipers were shooting from a slightly further point which was a different feeling when being a bit closer to the enemy position and knowing that you still need to have an exit route.

  The standard issue Finnish gloves did in fact have precise openings for fingernail exposure... a well known fact amongst military historians.

  Simo was my uncle and fathers friend, pa would take him a six pack of sassperalla whenever he was around . He went through several surgeries post war having his jaw rebuilt . He hated scopes and russians ,said long pig was all they were good for . &nbsp; Got a couple of Simo stories .

  It&apos;s always hilarious when you hear that soldiers did things like modify weapons or use their wits to reduce casualties of thier own allies whilst maximising enemy kills and it&apos;s considered &quot;a violation of military protocol&quot; it&apos;s like oh so you&apos;d rather both sides just being canon fodder. <br><br>On the issues with the scope too, the issue wasn&apos;t just breath fog but the scope would also fog up due to the cold. I&apos;m glad you mentioned Simo putting snow in his mouth. <br><br>I&apos;m pretty sure Simo only had about 2-4 hours each day of sniping due to the minimal light. He was also shot in the face and lived. For those interested Sabaton did a song on him called &quot;White Death&quot;.

  The snow in his mouth didn&apos;t &quot;absorb the moisture&quot;. It just cooled his breath so that there was no temperature difference.

  I served in the military in a very cold place. Every soldier is taught to cover their face and mouth to prevent loss of heat and are issued &nbsp;scarves and various face covers.

  The fact that Hollywood has made a zillion films about world war II but has never made a film about the exploits of this guy tells me all I need to know about who the people are that control Hollywood.

  Using snow to absorb muzzle blast and reduce dust signature is elegant. It’s passive signature management before the term even existed. He&apos;s really very smart.
