  Whoever design the HK Airport express train should get an award for the most convenient airport train ever. &nbsp;Just take a few steps from the arrival hall and 24min later, you are in Central. &nbsp;Simply amazing!!!

  I am a Hong Kong born, Canadian trained civil engineer and lawyer. I grew up in the shadow of Kai Tak. Left in 1969, returned in 1993. Before the new airport opened for operation, we were invited for an inspection. &nbsp;Let me tell you, as an engineer, it was like a trip to a wonderland. The most impressive part was not even the hard wares, but the people. The only major fault during the first few days of operation was the system of tracking the cargo containers that were moved from Kai Tak got screwed up. &nbsp;Everyone helped to track those thousands of containers. It was organized and resolved in a few days. The hardware was impressive, &nbsp;but at the end, it was the Hong Kong spirit that shone through.

  Having lived in HK I have so say this is one of the best airports in the world. The best thing about it is its ability to handle passengers quickly and efficiently. And the design is timeless.

  My Dad was head of plant and logistics for Balfour Beatty on this project. I walked on its roof in 1997 when he got me a summer job there.

  I was part of that project. Worked for the Strategic Planning Department as well as some airfield simulation for the pavements. So many stories! Anyway, thanks for the walk down memory lane. Great video.

  My Dad managed a team that was contracted to build the airport. They were in charge of the land reclamation and building the foundations for the MTR airport rail network. They ran into a lot of issues but delivered the project years ahead of schedule. It&apos;s an astonishing achievement.

  My cousin was a pilot with Cathay Pacific. &nbsp;I sat behind him on the flight deck as we landed at Kai Tak. &nbsp;On approach the buildings were staggered Vee each side. &nbsp;Looking in hirise windows at people having dinner as we flew in the Vee between buildings then hard turn to starboard to land. He said he delayed the turn until last minute for extra banking just for fun. Loads of fun. &nbsp;Very cool.

  I was an Air Force pilot stationed in Vietnam during the war (1969-1970). The commander of the base had his own C-47 and assigned me the copilot duties whenever he wanted to go to Hong Kong. He was a WWII veteran of the Pacific and had old friends in Hong Kong, one of whom was the manager of a luxury hotel. I recall flying that right turn approach into the island runway and taxiing back to the ramp where we were met by a couple of Mercedes limos for a trip to the hotel. Heady stuff for a young Lieutenant from nowhere. Typically, we went there to pick up a band for entertaining the troops and resupply the commanders favorite beverages. 56 years ago.

  I&apos;m from Hungary and I&apos;ve ended up living in HK, on Lamma island, for the past 15years. I walk bare feet in the mornings for 5 minutes to swim a bit in the sea, all year around. Half an hour ferry ride away I can shop in a 3 story Apple store &amp; service. Half hour later I can be at the airport, 3 hours later in Bangkok or instead of going to the airport hour and a half later in Shenzen by train or bus. It&apos;s a miraculous hive of humans. Scary to think though what would happen if electricity or water supply is disrupted? :/

  hongkonger born and raised, it wasn&apos;t until i lived in and travelled around europe for 8 months did i realize just how spoiled i had been with hkia being one of the best airports on the planet <br><br>in fact, i&apos;m writing this comment on the bus back home from the airport, having just seen off a family member flying to taiwan!
